Arts & Homelessness International: Co-creating Change through Creativity
Arts & Homelessness International (AHI) is a global network that brings positive change to people, projects, and policy in homelessness through arts and creativity. A key component of their research efforts is the Advocacy, Research, and Training (ART) Lab Enquiries, which are co-produced research initiatives addressing critical social issues at the intersection of arts and homelessness.
ART Lab Enquiries create virtual spaces where individuals with lived experience of homelessness collaborate with policymakers, academics, funders, and practitioners to explore pertinent research questions. This co-creative approach ensures that diverse perspectives inform the research process, leading to more comprehensive and impactful outcomes.
One notable ART Lab Enquiry focused on the role of arts in supporting people experiencing homelessness during the COVID-19 pandemic. This project examined innovative ways arts organizations adapted to mitigate isolation and promote well-being among homeless individuals during lockdowns. The findings highlighted the significant impact of creative engagement on mental health and social connection in emergency accommodation settings.
Through ART Lab Enquiries, AHI exemplifies the power of co-produced research in addressing complex social issues. By integrating the voices of those directly affected, these initiatives not only generate valuable insights but also empower participants, fostering a sense of agency and inclusion in the research process.
